Analysing the lyrics
(Intro)
Whoooaa yeaahhh
Whooooaa ooo
Ohh yeaahhh
Whoooaa
Boy you waan fi hold me
Put your arms right around me
Mi no seh me give u di tightest hold u eva get inna your life.
Boy u waan fi just squeeze me put de ting right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest hold you ever get inna your life.
Woo hoo….

The intro for ‘hold me’ talks about Shani putting her arms around her man and holding or cuddling him. This represents the subculture of relationships and showing affection to the person you are in a relationship with. She is telling him that he will never find someone who can hold him like she can and is basically telling him it will be hard to replace her.
this verse is set in her bedroom, she runs up the stairs walks into the bedroom and goes straight to the computer to watch Gyptian's video. this is because her song is a reply version to him, her lover. This is also the chorus.

(Verse 1)
You eye dem dry and you nuh care
So me go give it anytime anywhere
Inna di square
Seh you nuh care
Me a yuh woman so me affi be there
Well u seh you want a girl who'll take you away
Baby come behind me lemme whine pon u……. wid it good
You affi feel it
Will have you coming back for more.

Verse 1 is Shani telling her man that because she is his girl, she will hold/hug him no matter where they are and no matter who is there. It again represents her values of love and affection for her partner and begins to enter the subculture of sex when she says ‘lemme whine pon u’. It is filmed in her bedroom again, however she is singing and dancing infront of the mirror and admiring the necklace he gave her.

Hook:
Boy you waan fi hold me
Put your arms right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest hold you ever get inna your life
Boy u waan fi just squeeze me put de ting right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest grip you ever did see in your life.

The chorus again, this chorus version is filmed as she lays on a silk sheet, imagining him being there with her and singing to him. The sheets are covered in red rose petals to represent the romance subculture.

(Verse 2)
Pon you bike me a ride it like voom voom voom voom
Cock up me bumpa and ah boom boom boom boom
Lift it up and drop it boy boo doom boom boom boom
No time to play around boy just get to my room
Me outta control ….a real man me want in my soul
But me know you are de one so don't bother take long
Me a de gal who go hold you down.

This verse refers to the sex value the most as the lyrics are very sexual and talk about how she wants to sleep with him. The first line means she is going to make love with him with her on top.
Hook:
Boy you waan fi hold me
Put your arms right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest hold you ever get inna your life

The lines of these verses are different positions she would like to make love with him in. In this part she is filmed with different shots of her dancing and singing, and on the silk sheets singing again. They flash back and forward to one another .

Break:
Pon you bike me a ride … like voom voom voom voom
Cock up me bumpa and ah boom boom boom boom
Lift it up and drop it boy boo doom boom boom boom
No time to play around boy just get to my room
Me outta control a real man me want in my soul
Me know you are de one so don't bother take long
Me a de gal who go hold you down.

This is where the pattern of the song changes. This again is referring to the different positions she would like to make love in and the lyrics are the same as verse 2. It then gets more into the emotions of making love as she is talking about him going deeper. ‘me know you are de one’ reflects her love for him as she is sure he is the one person she wants to be with and wouldn’t want to be doing this with any other man. This relates to the sex subculture.

(Hook)
Boy me waan fi hold yuh
Put di ting right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest hold you ever did see in your life.
Boy u waan fi just squeeze me put de ting right around me
Me no seh me gi you de tightest grip you ever did see in your life.

Refer to intro. Lyrics are the same.
(repeat Verse 2)
(repeat Hook)
(repeat Verse 1)

At the very end of the video, the main song fades and the audience can see the artist walking along side a candle lit river with her song playing lighty in the background. this again relates to the romance subculture.

The video for 'Hold Me' will be a narrative based video and will tell a story of how she feels for her partner, the way she cares for him and will be there for him always. it expresses the passion and attraction she has for him.
the video will consist of locations such as a bedroom, a park, places where she is able to think about her partner and how much she misses him.
the video will consist of a variety of camera shots including close ups, extreme close ups, mid shot and long shots. the camera work will also include high and low angleing, panning and possibly tracking movement.

  1. You have made a start in annotating the lyrics of your song and it shows that you have started to think about the representation of the music video and what you want to include. But you need to make your analysis more detailed by highlighting the lyrics that will show the performance, narrative and concept style. Also you need to think about the mise-scene and camera shots too.
